Xiaomi Mi 11 will be the first phone to ship with the upcoming Snapdragon 875 SoC

Xiaomi has reportedly secured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 SoC, to be paired with its yet to be announced flagship Mi 11. Not only that, but it also appears that the Chinese smartphone brand has secured a kind of timed exclusivity period for the flagship.

News of the exclusivity comes through a China-based leaker, Digital Chat Station, which made the reveal via Weibo. To be fair, there is no additional information about the limited exclusivity period for Xiaomi, but considering the trend and the company’s habits, it is possible that the exclusivity of Snapdragon 875 will only be applicable to the Mi 11 when it goes on sale in China. In other words, it is not the longest period of exclusivity.

Outside of China, the other non-Chinese smartphone maker expected to get the first data on the Snapdragon 875 SoC would be Samsung and its still-unreleased Galaxy S21.

On that note, Xiaomi’s habit of having early data on Qualcomm chipsets isn’t all that surprising. For those who don’t know, the brand did the same with the Snapdragon 768G, which is used in the Redmi K30 5G Racing.

As it has in recent generations of Snapdragon flagship chipsets, Qualcomm is expected to officially launch the Snapdragon 875 in December. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the mobile chipmaker is likely to announce its new product via live broadcast, rather than a physical event in Hawaii.

Once again, there is no official news from Xiaomi on this yet, so take this news with the usual grain of salt.
