MIRI: A gas pipeline company worker who disappeared in the jungle of Baram district in northern Sarawak was rescued.
The worker, Douglas Tibi, disappeared along a hillside near the Long Jegan settlement five hours from Miri on Friday (November 13) evening and was rescued on Saturday (November 14).
In a statement, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said he was taken to the Long Lama Clinic and suffered a broken leg from a fall.
“The worker was conducting inspection work along the Sabah-Sarawak pipeline route in the jungles near Long Jegan when he disappeared. He was with a team of workers conducting a safety inspection along a 4 km section long of the gas pipeline on a slope, ”said the department.
He added that other workers reported that he disappeared on Friday.
“On Saturday, the Miri Fire and Rescue Department deployed a search and rescue team to the scene.
The missing man was found with the help of drones owned by Petronas, “the department said, adding that the man was found about two kilometers from the place where he was reported missing.
The Petronas-owned 600km Sabah-Sarawak gas pipeline project is intended to channel gas from Sabah to the port of Bintulu in northern Sarawak for processing and export.
