Woman to be investigated for injuring cats

BUTTERWORTH: Police will investigate allegations that a woman struck two cats, resulting in death, for believing the animals had defecated in front of her home.

In the incident on Tuesday (December 29) afternoon, the woman was said to have used a metal blade to beat the cats outside an apartment in Seberang Jaya here.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Samad said that in the 1:20 pm incident linked to the suspect, one of the cats who was pregnant died, while a kitten suffered mouth injuries.

“According to a witness at the scene, he and his friend were in a hut on the floors, feeding the cats.

“She saw a woman complaining that cats were defecating in front of her house, and then all of a sudden she pulled the steel plate out of her car and started attacking the cats,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (December 30). .

ACP Shafee said the witness then contacted the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), which then rushed to the scene to investigate, before taking the cats to DVS state headquarters in Bukit Tengah.

He said the case was turned over to DVS and will be investigated under Section 29 (1) (e) of the Animal Welfare Act of 2015 for causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal.

He said the 51-year-old suspect also claimed she was assaulted by an unknown individual after the incident.

“We will investigate your claims under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing harm,” he said when contacted.
