Woman shot dead by her husband after filing for divorce

JOHOR BAHRU: A woman was shot and killed by her husband with a compressed air rifle at their home in Taman Saujana, Kota Tinggi on Monday.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that in the 2 am incident, there was a misunderstanding between the couple, during which the wife asked for a divorce.

The 43-year-old suspect allegedly shot his wife as she was sleeping later, he said.

He then wrapped the victim in a blanket before placing the body in a jerrycan of water, Ayob Khan said.

“He later took the body of his 38-year-old wife to a farm in Bandar Penawar, about 10 kilometers from the house to be buried. In addition to the suspect, who works as a bulldozer driver, a 32-year-old man known to the wife was also detained to assist in the investigation.

“The couple, married for eight years, have two children, ages three and four. The incident occurred while her children were still sleeping. His two sons are now in the care of the deceased’s family, ”he told a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today.

He said police received a report from the couple’s neighbor on March 1 saying they saw the victim’s husband loading a jerrycan of water into a car around 4.30 a.m.

Ayob Khan said that during the investigations, the victim’s husband admitted to killing his wife and then led a police team to the farm where the victim’s body was discovered around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

The body is now at Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for an autopsy, and the two men have been in pretrial detention for six days from today until March 10, he said.

“The case is being investigated for murder and also under Section 36 of the Weapons Act of 1960 because in addition to possessing a compressed air rifle, the suspect also had a shotgun,” he said, adding that he also had two criminal records. – Called
