JOHOR BAHRU: A woman asked her husband for a divorce during a fight. And the angry husband later shot her dead with a compressed air rifle while she was sleeping at her home in Taman Saujana, Kota Tinggi on Monday.

He then wrapped the body in a blanket before placing it in a jerrycan of water, then buried the body about 10 km from the house.

Johor Police Chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said there was a misunderstanding between the couple, during which the wife filed for divorce.

The 43-year-old suspect allegedly shot his wife in her sleep later, around 2 a.m., he said.

He then wrapped the victim in a blanket before placing the body in a jerrycan of water, Ayob Khan said.

“He later took the body of his 38-year-old wife to a farm in Bandar Penawar, about 10 kilometers from the house to be buried. In addition to the suspect, who works as a bulldozer driver, a 32-year-old man known to the wife was also detained to assist in the investigation.

“The couple, married for eight years, have two children, ages three and four. The incident occurred while her children were sleeping. Her two children are now in the care of the deceased’s family, ”he said today at a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here.

He said police received a report from the couple’s neighbor on March 1 saying they saw the victim’s husband loading a jerrycan of water into a car around 4.30 a.m.

Ayob Khan said that during the investigations, the victim’s husband admitted to killing his wife and then led a police team to the farm where the body was discovered around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

The body is now at Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for an autopsy. The two men have been in custody for six days from today until March 10, he said.

“The case is being investigated for murder and also under Section 36 of the 1960 Gun Act because in addition to possessing an air rifle, the suspect also had a shotgun,” he said, adding that he also had two criminal records.
