Lobos midfielder Leander Dendoncker says the 2,000 Liverpool fans inside Anfield sounded like 15,000 when the Reds defeated Nuno Espirito Santo’s men 4-0 on Sunday night.
With the Liverpool City region at level 2 coronavirus restrictions due to recent massive testing, fans were able to return to Anfield for the first time since March, and the first time since the Reds were crowned Premier League champions.
Liverpool took the lead with a goal from Mohamed Salah in the first half, before three more goals in the second period in front of the majority of the fans who were able to enter the stadium, at the Kop end.
Gini Wijnaldum fired on an effort from a distance, Joel Matip nodded with a cross from Salah and Nelson Semedo hit his own net as the Reds fell back on points with Tottenham on top, and Dendoncker says fans played their part. .

“I think it’s a big difference,” he told reporters after the game.
“It felt like there were at least 15,000 people here when you heard the noise they were making. They managed to move their team forward.
“Obviously, it is much better with the fans and I hope that if the situation allows it and if we can all stay healthy, I hope that all the stadiums can be full soon.”
However, it wasn’t just the fans that made the difference, as Dendoncker admitted.

“Liverpool are a really strong team and when you go down two and then down three, it’s very difficult to come back after that,” he continued.
“I don’t think we played a bad game and in the first half we had some crosses and some passes that perhaps we could have done better, that we can watch and that we will watch and do.
“So defensively, we have to try to look at ourselves and think about what we can do better in the future.”
