Conor Coady has explained why Wolverhampton Wanderers knew Diogo Jota would be an immediate hit at Liverpool.

Jota has gone live since he switched to Anfield from Molineux for an initial value of £ 41 million in September.

The forward has scored nine goals in 15 games and scored 44 times in 131 appearances during a three-year stint at the Wolves.

Coady, a former Liverpool player, will be tasked with helping to calm Jota’s taste when he takes on his former club at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday night.

And the England defender has identified a key attribute that is already making a difference to the world champions.

“It was fantastic,” Coady said. “I think all the players in our dressing room knew the type of player he was, we know the type of character he is and we know that he would have gone there with the right mindset.

“His mentality is incredible and we knew he was going to go there and score goals and I honestly couldn’t speak more highly of him.

“Anyone who walks into our locker room and then goes on to different things, we always want the most success for them in the world, because they are fantastic people, and that is no different with Jota.

“We are really looking forward to facing him and we hope he doesn’t have much success on Sunday, but what he has done since the beginning of the season has been fantastic, and that’s all credit to him because he is a brilliant person. “

Coady made two appearances for Liverpool after passing through the Academy ranks, and while he was part of two FA Cup successes against his former team, he has yet to win in the Premier League after four attempts.

Speaking to wolves.co.uk, the Wolves captain added on his return to Anfield: “It’s a place where everyone expects to go, not just me, because when you go to play Liverpool, you want to test yourself against the best players. . .

“I’ve been back there several times over the last few years and I didn’t get the results we wanted, so it’s important that we go there and impose our way of playing and hopefully we get a good result.”
