KUALA LUMPUR, December 28 – The New Year has always been preceded by colorful fireworks displays and live performances commemorating the countdown.

However, with the Covid-19 situation, operators have made the decision not to hold events that attract public gatherings this year to avoid compromising everyone’s safety.

Here are the best spots in Klang Valley that won’t have any fireworks displays this year.

Resort World Genting (RWG) is known for its cool weather and several attractions, but it is also among the best places for New Years countdown events.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, RWG will not have any fireworks displays this year.

Genting Malaysia in a statement said: “The pandemic has had an adverse impact on the entertainment and hospitality industry and RWG is not spared the difficulties of these difficult times.

“We have redesigned our processes to adapt them to the new operating environment.”

“We have also created a safe environment for all of our visitors, employees, business partners and the community by implementing strict security measures throughout the complex.”

Although there is no New Years countdown to this year, RWG will still have several offers and attractions available to visitors at the resort.

The Mutiara Damansara shopping center, The Curve, has always hosted the New Years celebration along with two other shopping centers in the Mutiara Damansara Shopping Center (MDCC), namely eCurve and the IPC Shopping Center.

They have been commemorating New Years celebrations for 14 years and have been known for their longest and most dazzling fireworks display in Selangor.

However, the trio of MDCC operators made a collective decision not to have any New Years events or fireworks that could encourage large crowds to gather this year.

A spokesperson for The Curve said: “What is important to any New Year’s celebration is having renewed hope, gratitude and a positive outlook for the year ahead.

“This time around, The Curve urges everyone to make the safety of individuals, family, friends and the wider community a priority.”

In addition to having to deal with additional expenses on health and safety measures, The Curve has also restructured its operations and has been working with its tenants to ensure that its buyers’ experience remains relevant.

“While 2020 has had its challenges, it has raised the importance of being aware of health, friends and family, and the value of time.

“Revitalizing the shopping experience and keeping it fresh will be a key focus for The Curve and the retail industry in the year ahead.”

With the joint decision of the MDCC, IPC is moving its New Years celebration to a digital platform.

According to General Manager Karyn Lim, the IPC Mall will host the ‘IPC Live Shopping Party’, the first 12-hour Facebook live broadcast at a mall in Malaysia.

“Viewers will be able to buy and enjoy special offers and entertainment from renowned local and international artists.

“There will be more than 30 tenants showing their products and services during the live broadcast.

“Buyers can easily make their purchases within the Facebook platform and receive them within 24 hours in Klang Valley, courtesy of our delivery partner, Lalamove,” Lim said, adding that the first 500 orders will enjoy free delivery with a limit of 20 RM.

As the Covid-19 pandemic and the motion control order (MCO) have affected the general visits of the IPC mall, this year’s challenges have also presented them with new opportunities to further strengthen their online and offline offerings. line.

“In June, we launched a personal shopper service with GoGet and recruited our food and beverage tenants into Beep to help them generate additional revenue streams.”

“In the absence of large-scale events on the ground, we focused our marketing efforts digitally, partnering with TikTok for our holiday celebrations and also to drive sales for our tenants.

“Our hope is that we will continue to innovate and adapt to changing consumer behavior and diversify our offerings to our visitors.”

“This New Year’s Eve campaign is just one of many ways we continue to challenge the traditional retail mold,” Lim said.

Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur

The iconic Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur is also among the hotspots for Malaysians that usher in the New Year.

According to a source from the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), Dataran Merdeka is closed for the time being due to maintenance works.

And with Kuala Lumpur and Selangor still under the conditional movement control order (CMCO), public events are still not allowed, as stated by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (KKM).

However, DBKL will host a virtual event on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the arrival of 2021.

The ‘Konsert Ambang 2021’ will feature live performances by Orkestra Kuala Lumpur and also a special appearance by DJ Isma Halil.

The end of the year virtual concert uses ‘Wargakota Terus Bertahan’ as the main theme.

Viewers can watch the performances live on DBKL’s official Facebook page and also on Bapakku FM’s Facebook page, the show will start at 10pm on December 31st.
