In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the charge d’affaires to express Malaysia’s concerns in this regard.
During the meeting, the Ministry reiterated Malaysia’s position to strongly condemn any inflammatory rhetoric and provocative acts that seek to defame the religion of Islam, as the world has recently witnessed in the form of populist speeches and publication of profane cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. .
“Malaysia is of the opinion that such high tension does not bode well for the peaceful coexistence of all religions,” Wisma Putra said in a statement on Wednesday (October 28).
The Ministry added that Malaysia is committed to upholding freedom of expression as fundamental human rights, provided that these rights are exercised with respect and responsibility.
Malaysia also underlines the importance of initiatives to reduce and eliminate Islamophobia at all levels.
