KLUANG: The Foreign Ministry is in talks with the Singapore government about standardizing the standard operating procedure (SOP) for those who wish to travel between Malaysia and Singapore for compassionate reasons, such as visiting a family member who is ill.

Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (pix) said that currently, there is no standardized SOP for those who wish to travel across the border for compassionate reasons.

“Until now, the SOP for such trips is ad hoc, so those who need to travel across the border must submit an appeal letter,” Seri Sembrong said when meeting with reporters at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK), here today.

“I am now discussing with Singapore the standardization of SOP for such (compassionate) cases,” he said.

Earlier, the deputy from Sembrong visited 71 flood evacuees (25 families) seeking refuge at the school after they were stranded when the stretch between Batu 17 and Batu 18 of Jalan Kluang-Mersing was impassable due to increased traffic. waters.
