Wilshere acknowledges that Ozil’s situation is not as clear as the club wants us to believe

Mesut Ozil has been fired from Arsenal’s first team this season as he struggled to meet Mikel Arteta’s demands.

The German was left off the Arsenal team record for the Premier League and Europa League this season, making him ineligible to play in any competition.

He had some opportunities to play for the Gunners when Arteta became the club’s coach.

The Spaniard gave every player on the team a chance to prove themselves to him and didn’t worry about his status under the former coach.

Ozil seemed like a player capable of putting in a lot of effort in those early days, but over time it became clear that he was holding the team back and Arteta brought him down.

He has not played for the club since March and has probably played his last game for them.

Arteta has repeatedly defended his decision, but Jack Wilshere does not accept any of it, claiming there could be more.

Asked if he was surprised to see the German left out at Arsenal, he said on ITV Football Football Podcast quoted by Mail Online: ‘Yes I am, because I played with him and used to love playing with him and I really really enjoyed it. He’s one of the best I’ve ever played with.

‘So yeah, I’m surprised, but obviously there’s something we don’t know.

“A player of his quality, I think he could make any team in the Premier League, that’s my opinion, and not having the opportunity to compete for a place is difficult to understand.”
