Will Muhyiddin give in to Umno’s demands?

YOUR OPINION | “A prime minister cannot entertain himself with the whims and fantasies of his MPs every time they ask for it.”

Umno details new terms, seeks supreme council council: Ahmad Maslan

We are ordinary people: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, never in the history of Malaysian politics have we seen parties that support the ruling government by making open demands and you, as prime minister, are willing to accommodate them.

They will then demand that all corruption charges against the leaders of Umno be dropped. Are you going to accommodate that too?

Shame on this, this is what happens when you deny the rakyat election by plotting a backdoor government earlier. Can we say that it serves you well?

Now it appears that the prime minister may be outright intimidated, and Muhyiddin may become Malaysia’s prime minister with fewer services.

Bobby0: Bersatu, when he was with Pakatan Harapan, was exactly playing head to head with the prime minister in his cap, important ministries under his charge and some of the states under his wings.

With a change of partners, Bersatu even holding the position of prime minister is being held hostage by Umno and they have to please his other partner, PAS.

They have lost two states and even in Perak they are outnumbered. Now Umno is coming for the jugular to take over more powerful positions. This will lead to Bersatu becoming even weaker and will surely face extinction in the next election.

Muhyiddin should have stayed in Harapan, and would hardly have faced such tensions. Stresses that are not good for your health especially.

They say that when karma comes, it comes back with an extra sting. We can see him now in action, as Muhyiddin deserves to be treated the same way he treated Harapan.

Sentinel: This is so fun. Umno’s ultimate game plan is to eliminate the remnants of Harapan that remain, and that includes Bersatu. Muhyiddin, they cannot forgive traitors like you.

They will demand the post of deputy prime minister so that he can contradict him in every move. They will demand the portfolio of the Minister of Finance to control the Treasury. And they will want all charges dropped for members of their party.

You have to give it to Umno. They will reassert their power and make sure there is no more democracy once they return to government. Well done, Bersatu and PKR defector Azmin Ali and company.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Muhyiddin, Umno is not fool enough to put his demands in writing so that you can take him to town and discredit Umno by making his demands public.

The demands have been explained to you on Wednesday night and yesterday. So why should it be in writing? Did you write to Umno in February to get her support to become a PM?

The fact that Umno general secretary Ahmad Maslan has postponed the publication of the letter until the Umno high council meeting is a clear indication that no letter will be issued.

The request for the letter proves Muhyiddin and Bersatu’s bad faith.

Best Malaysia: Now everyone is playing politics when the rakyat is suffering.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah should have retired long ago, along with PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The terms demanded by Umno will likely include dropping the case of Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and pardoning former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Some others also need ministerial positions.

All of this is the consequence of Harapan’s failure to clean up corrupt leaders and no reform of the law, such as the anti-party jump, as Mahathir was busy courting the deputies of Umno to form a unity government.

Essentially, the Malaysian parties got into this mess. The vote of no confidence and general elections will not solve this. The rakyat must withdraw the old politicians.

Mosquitobrain: Umno and PN can continue to negotiate until the cows return home.

Actually, Anwar does not require the entire battalion of Umno. You don’t need 30 or even 15 of Umno’s legislators. Only five sincere souls are enough to move PN.

And at the same time, Anwar can put Pejuang in a container. Let Mahathir continue to complain that Anwar does not want his support.

HangTuahPJ: This is a joke? Is this country a democracy? Is this how the government is chosen? Why are they taking rakyat from us?

Umno could simply demand that all charges against those who have robbed us be dropped. Please, His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong, request a vote of confidence in Parliament as soon as possible before this country becomes a joke to the rest of the world.

The fact that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is allowing Umno to make demands shows that they no longer have a majority of votes.

GrayPuffin9604: With all the top posts taken, what else can Muhyiddin offer Umno? Changing those existing positions would create another headache.

Stranger Stranger: Basically, any group with three or more MPs on their side can voice their demand and the prime minister will have no choice but to give in to all of them if he wants to keep his post. Therefore, you can never make everyone happy and maintain a majority in Parliament.

Umno basically wants all the things Azmin wants or has.

Centennial Egg: A seated prime minister cannot entertain the whims and fancies of his supporting MPs every time they ask for it.

How is he going to appease his fellow supporters who helped him seize power in a government through the back door, especially the one that has already entrenched itself in the official residence of the deputy prime minister?

YellowMarlin8834: Muhyiddin, you said you didn’t want to be the prime minister. Malaysia does not belong to you and just because you want to remain PM, are you willing to allow unfit and unskilled people to be in the cabinet?

Returns the rakyat command.
