The ending credits images of The Mandalorian season 2 featuring the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) have caught the attention of delighted Malaysian Star Wars fans.
The credit to FINAS indicates that the episode occurred with the financial assistance of 30% cash reimbursement from the Malaysian government body.
The last episode showed that The Mandalorian had financial assistance from FINAS
So why is FINAS involved in the production of The Mandalorian?
Well, it turns out that it’s all part of a larger plan to make Malaysia the preferred destination for film productions and post-production activities.
The 30% cash back mentioned in the end credits is part of the Film In Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) grant program that provides incentives to foreign filmmakers using Malaysian talent and venues.
As many may not know, I would like to let the world know that FINAS offers incentives through FIMI, both for film productions and post-production activities. We work closely with production companies to foster the growth of the creative industry in Malaysia. I take this opportunity to welcome film producers from all countries to invest their productions in Malaysia, as FINAS will subsidize 30% of all expenses incurred in Malaysia. Through FIMI, production and post-production cost can be competitively comparable with neighboring countries with exceptional production quality and remarkable visuals.
Dr. Ahmad Idham bin Ahmad Nadzri, CEO of FINAS via PR Newswire.
To qualify for this grant, The Mandalorian actually engaged with the Kuala Lumpur office of Base Media, a leading animation and visual effects studio that has worked on other Hollywood blockbusters such as Aquaman, Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and more. !
Base Media specializes in high-end character and creature animations, fluid and dynamic effects, photorealistic 3D matte paint, and scenery extensions.
In addition to Kuala Lumpur, the company also has offices in China and Los Angeles.
