WhatsApp tries a new version of the archived chat feature

WhatsApp is updating its Archived Chats feature to make it easier for users to resume conversations later.

The leaking site WABetaInfo reported that the new Read Later feature that will replace Archived Chats works the same way, temporarily hiding a chat.

However, it also prevents notifications for archived chats, unlike how currently archived chats are automatically unarchived every time users receive a new message.

Instead, users will have a button pinned ‘Read Later’ at the top of their Chats column.

The first time users click the button, a banner will explain the Read Later feature.

According to a screenshot from WABetaInfo, the banner reads “The file is now read later. To reduce interruptions, chats with new messages stay here and you will not receive notifications. “

Users can go to Settings to disable this feature, so chats that receive new notifications will be automatically unarchived.

This feature is currently in development for both Android and iOS and does not have a fixed release date yet.
