PETALING JAYA: The government’s work from home directive (FMH) for areas under the conditional movement control order (MCO) is considered to have a significant impact on productivity and business activities.

“Although the restriction is only for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Sabah, the Klang Valley is a highly populated area and an important economic center.

“Therefore, the impact of the conditional OLS will be significant on consumption and business,” said Sunway University economics professor Dr. Yeah Kim Leng.

Under the new directive, the government is allowing up to 10% of those in management and supervisory positions to work there.

Time at their workplaces is limited to four hours from 10 am to 2 pm three days a week.

Industry feedback showed that a total of 776,135 or 25% of workers in the affected areas were in supervisory and management positions.

Lau Zheng Zhou, a research manager at the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs, noted that companies were better prepared for the WFH this time compared to March.

“Some companies have prepared to facilitate the WFH before the conditional MCO was announced. Others have gone further in addressing mind-related issues to ensure well-being. So I think this will be less shocking compared to the first MCO, ”he said.
