PETALING JAYA: The Department of Road Transport (JPJ) will resume operations for all its services, including at Pos Malaysia branches, on May 18, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“Right now, JPJ staff across the country are making final preparations for full operations, including ensuring that all requirements related to safety and health are met,” he said.
The Transport Minister said JPJ was also coordinating with banks to ensure that their services would return to normal starting next week.
Prior to this, Dr. Wee said JPJ began opening its counters in phases after the government’s decision to open the economy under the Conditional Movement Control (MCO) order for specific issues until May 17.
“JPJ will also operate seven days a week to allow pending issues to be resolved as quickly as possible to avoid congestion for existing individual and business clients. This will continue until further notice, ”he said.
JPJ will operate between 8am and 4pm during the week and between 8am and 1pm on weekends. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. at 1 p.m. it will apply to states that observe Fridays and Saturdays as rest days.
Dr. Wee added that cash payments at JPJ branches
will only be allowed between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., while non-cash or electronic payments will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekends.
He said private vehicle owners would still enjoy an exemption for driver license and motorcycle license renewal charges during the MCO period on the condition that their insurance coverage was still valid.
Dr. Wee also reminded JPJ staff and the public to strictly adhere to the Ministry of Health standard operating procedure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the JPJ counters will be closed for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations that will start from May 23 to May 26. Operations will resume on May 27.
