Wee glad Sabah MCA run by locals

KOTA KINABALU: MCA has done well in locating the party since its founding in Sabah in 1991, as all of its leaders are local, says party chairman Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong.

“I am pleased to say that Sabah MCA is run solely by Sabahans.

“They continue to actively nurture local talents to be the guardian angels of the Chinese community, which represents 11% of all registered voters in Sabah.

“At the same time, they also provide comprehensive services to all ethnic groups in Land Below The Wind,” he said after celebrating Malaysia Day during the Remembrance of the Golden Years event with more than 100 members of the Sabah Seniors Association in Kota. Kinabalu yesterday.

Dr. Wee also praised the excellent interracial harmony between the different races in Sabah, calling it a model of peaceful society.

“Malaysia is a multiracial country. Without Sabah and Sarawak, we will not have the Malaysia that we are proud of, ”he said.

He also took the opportunity to introduce Barisan Nasional’s candidate for Likas, Dr. Chang Kee Ying, describing him as “an exemplary member and a great achiever, down to earth and sincere.”

“The MCA’s core leadership will give it our full support to move it forward and we hope everyone will vote for it,” he said.

Also present were the party vice president, Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, the party secretary general, Datuk Chong Sin Woon, the association president, Datuk William Chai, and the head of the Sabah Wanita MCA, Dr. Pamela Yong.

Dr Wee said that Pakatan Harapan, which formed the federal government for 22 months, had “greatly disappointed the Sabahans” when it failed to deliver on its promises.

“The Warisan-led state government was equally mediocre in its performance.

“Now is the best opportunity to make a positive change by voting for Barisan as the new state government, which will cooperate closely with the federal government led by Perikatan Nasional in the best interest of all Sabahans.

“I urge everyone to vote on September 26 and bring change to Sabah,” he said.

Dr. Wee, who extended his stay in Sabah yesterday, also supported two other MCA candidates – Datuk Chew Kok Woh and Chan Boon Thian for the Karamunting and Elopura seats.

Chew, he said, was a political analyst and activist with various non-governmental groups and youth organizations, which gave him an advantage in serving voters.

As for Chan, he had long served the local community as an advisor to the Sandakan health clinic panel, Dr. Wee said, adding that his vast experience in the public sector would be an asset.

Sabah MCA is running for four seats in the Sabah state elections. His Kapayan division chief, Lu Yen Tung, is standing in Kapayan.

“I hope the people of Sabah will make a wise decision this time and elect only committed leaders as their representatives,” he said, thanking Kelantan Barisan Secretary Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad for campaigning together in Sabah.

Dr Wee also announced that works to extend the runway at Sandakan airport were underway despite setbacks due to the motion control order during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said it was expected to be completed in August of next year.

“I received a progress update on the expansion status of Sandakan Airport from Ting Jong Cherng, the contractor representing Musyati Sdn Bhd.

“It is good to note that the project to better serve the east coast of Sabah has been restarted since August 25 and is scheduled to be completed in one more year,” he said.

The airport’s current 2,135 km runway will be expanded to 2.5 km to allow Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft to land fully loaded and unrestricted.
