PBS adviser Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the party will cooperate with its allies to defeat Warisan in the Sabah elections.

TUARAN: PBS adviser Joseph Pairin Kitingan says the party is not pulling out of any of the seats it is contesting.

This comes in the wake of a report by Utusan Malaysia, quoting Perikatan Nasional Secretary General Hamzah Zainudin as saying that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) parties agreed to avoid clashes in the elections.

Speaking at an event here today, Pairin said the party is willing to cooperate with its allies in GRS, although this does not mean that it will withdraw from the competition in any of its seats.

“We are not retreating, but cooperating to defeat our main enemy (Warisan). For example, if A wins, it is because of the help of B or if B wins, it is because of the help of A.

“There is no possibility of withdrawing because we have candidates who use the PBS symbol. If we wanted to retire, it would have been before nomination day, ”she said during the campaign here today.

When asked to comment on Hamzah’s statement, Pairin said that he was not informed of such a consensus among the GRS parties.

“Whenever we want to cooperate with our friends, we will cooperate, this is the strategy. But I don’t want to tell (the media) because it’s a strategy. “

He also questioned Kemabong incumbent Jamawi Jaafar’s decision to compete under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket for the Melalap seat, having defected to Warisan in 2018, and then switch his allegiance to BN just prior to dissolution. of the state assembly on July 30.

“We all know that the Melalap seat has traditionally been challenged by PBS. Although we lost in previous polls, by tradition, PBS should compete for the seat.

“So what about Jamawi, who was previously Kemabong’s manager and is now competing in Melalap? This is something that is not pleasant, “he said.

On the day of the nomination, PBS shocked after presenting candidates in seven additional seats, in addition to the 15 it had previously announced, sparking more clashes between the BN and PN parties.

In the initial 15 seats, PBS was going to contest eight seats against BN parties: against Umno in Bengkoka, Tanjung Aru and Telupid, against PBRS in Matunggong, Tandek and Kadamaian, and against Sabah MCA in Kapayan and Karamunting.

On the day of the nomination, PBS issued a new list of candidates that showed seven additional seats: Paginatan, Lumadan, Tambunan, Bingkor, Tulid, Moyog and Liawan.

In total, there will be clashes on 17 seats between BN, PN and PBS.

In the Paginatan and Tulid seats, there will be a three-way fight between them, and this does not take into account the rest of the contending parties.
