PPBM chief information officer Wan Saiful Wan Jan said his party would not give PAS an ultimatum to choose between MN and PN.

PETALING JAYA: PPBM is still open to joining Muafakat Nasional (MN), a pact forged between PAS and Umno in 2019.

The party’s chief information officer, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, said PPBM was open to the idea as he wanted all parties, including Umno, to join forces for better political stability.

“We prioritize unity. If we can maintain (the alliance between PAS and Umno in MN), we would like to.

“We never said that we did not want to work with other parties,” he told reporters after attending a Supreme Council meeting chaired by party chairman Muhyiddin Yassin tonight.

Wan Saiful said that political unity would ensure a stable government that in turn would benefit the people.

“It would allow us to better serve the rakyat.”

He said this when asked to comment on PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s call for all Muslim groups to join the PPBM and PAS in strengthening the Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Hadi’s comments come days after the party announced that it will strengthen its cooperation with PPBM to face the upcoming general elections, following calls made at the recent Umno general assembly for the PAS to clearly indicate its position, with Umno officially declaring his intention not to compete together with PPBM.

Meanwhile, Wan Saiful said his party would not give PAS an ultimatum to choose between MN and PN.

He said that PPBM respected the Islamist party’s stance to strengthen MN and protect PN.

“We appreciate the camaraderie shown by PAS and their openness, as well as the firmness in wanting to be with PN.”

Umno, at its general assembly last week, gave PAS an ultimatum to decide between its cooperation with Umno in MN and PPBM in PN.

Umno had previously said that he would end his cooperation with PPBM in the 15th general election.

On another matter, Wan Saiful welcomed the call of MIC Chairman S Vigneswaran for Umno to hand over 10% of its seats to the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional component parties in the upcoming general elections.

He said the door was still open to negotiate seats and ensure the two coalitions did not meet at the polls.
