PETALING JAYA: The water supply will be restored by 50% before midnight on Sunday (September 6), says Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
He said that law enforcement authorities would take stricter measures to ensure that such an incident does not happen again in the future.
Amirudin also said that a proposal to increase the fine from RM50,000 to RM1,000 for those who pollute water under the Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) Law 1999 is also under discussion.
He said this in a statement after chairing a meeting with Luas, the Selangor Department of the Environment, the police, the Selayang City Council (MPS) and the Gombak Land and District Office.
The MB received a full report on the situation of a major disturbance that caused more than a million households to suffer from dry taps in seven districts of the Klang Valley.
“I just chaired the meeting on the current issue of water pollution. Air Selangor predicts that by midnight, 50% of the accounts (households) will have their water supply restored.
“Hospitals and dialysis centers are the top priorities (to resume the water supply) at this time to minimize disruptions.
“We discussed the long-term solution to this outage.
“In addition to cracking down on the MPS and arresting the police, Luas and the Selangor Education Department will expand Sungai Sembah scent monitoring to complete efforts already underway at 53 facilities around Sungai. Gong to ensure this is not repeated, “Amirudin said.
He also said that the Gombak District and Land Office will issue a notice for the involved factory to vacate its facilities immediately, as its operations were halted on Thursday (September 3).
“The proposal to increase the fine from RM50,000 to RM1,000 under the enactment of Luas will be taken to the Selangor State Assembly,” Amirudin said.
