Mnet has shared a fun video of TVXQ reviewing the performances of the groups that will be competing in “Kingdom”!
The newly released clip begins with the members of TVXQ sharing their nervousness and excitement about hosting the upcoming idol competition show, in which they will act as MCs.
After pointing out that “Kingdom” will mark the first time they will host a show together, Changmin jokingly worries that people will complain, “[TVXQ] It has been around for 17 or 18 years, and this is the best you can do? Yunho then asks the production staff with a panicked expression, “You’re not going to give us scare missions on the spot or something like that, are you?”
When asked how they felt after receiving the offer to host the show, Changmin replied, “It’s the first time that we’ve led a show together as MCs, and honestly, the idea that we would guide younger artists made me think, ‘ We need to be careful and do a good job. ‘ Yunho chimes in: “As MCs, we shouldn’t be biased towards one group over another, so I was very concerned about that.”
Changmin goes on to reveal that while watching “Road to Kingdom”, the “prequel” to “Kingdom” that aired last year, he found himself supporting THE BOYZ’s Q in particular.
Using Q’s first name, Changmin comments, “There is a boy named Changmin in THE BOYZ. At that time, [when I was watching ‘Road to Kingdom’], I didn’t know that I would become an MC, so somehow I kept paying more attention to him in particular. “The production staff then points out that there is also a namesake of TVXQ in ATEEZ, and Yunho immediately replies,” Yes, there is a Yunho “.
The staff then ask TVXQ to watch the performances of the six competing groups and share their thoughts on them. First up is THE BOYZ’s legendary cover of SHINee’s Taemin’s “Danger” from “Road to Kingdom,” which even caught the attention of Taemin himself.
As soon as Q appears on the screen, Changmin exclaims with an excited laugh, “Oh, it’s Changmin!” The two members of TVXQ marvel at the difficulty of the part of the choreography in which Sunwoo jumps on the backs of four of his bandmates while they also jump off the ground at the same time.
Changmin comments, “It gave me goosebumps”, and Yunho intervenes: “I think the physical state of this group is impressive.” He then adds: “There are advantages and disadvantages to having many members, but it can be an advantage if they maximize the use of formations. I think if they recognize that and use it wisely, they can put on a really great performance.
The next performance is Stray Kids’ “God’s Menu”, and while watching the Felix part, Changmin comments in amazement, “How can someone with such a pretty face dance like that?” Yunho adds, “The energy they give off is great.” Changmin continues, “The lyrics of the song are really cute, which makes it surprising how good they look.”
Yunho then comments, “I hope they mix and match a lot. I think they are a group that can really show their charm by mixing and matching their strength with a softer side. “
While watching ATEEZ’s “HALA HALA”, Yunho comments with an impressed laugh, “They’re a little angry. The look in their eyes has a lot of impact, it’s like they’re saying, ‘I’m going to burn this stage.’” Changmin agrees , “[Their eyes are saying,] ‘I’m still hungry [for success]. “
He adds with self-criticism: “It is these kinds of things that make me realize that I have become an old fart.” Yunho points out, “They are a group that is getting a lot of attention abroad,” and Changmin adds, “I think [‘Kingdom’] it will be a very good opportunity for them. “
Next up is SF9’s “Good Guy”, and Yunho comments, “You can tell there are actors in this group.” The two TVXQ members continue to marvel at how tall they are, with Changmin commenting, “Since they are tall, they have long arms and legs, and that makes their movements bigger. [while dancing]. “
Later, Yunho starts adorably singing the song in the middle of SF9’s performance.
Before moving on to iKON’s “Rhythm Ta”, Yunho enthusiastically mentions the fact that when he was a child actor, iKON’s Chanwoo performed “Mini-Changmin” in TVXQ’s 2006 music video for “Balloons.”
“There is going to be a familiar face that we will be happy to see,” Yunho says with a smile, and Changmin fondly accepts, “He grew up well.”
While watching iKON’s performance, Yunho praises them by commenting, “I know you are an exceptional group in taking control of the stage.” Changmin agrees: “They are talented artists who know how to play with the stage.” Yunho concludes by sharing, “I feel like they will prepare iconic performances, so I’m excited and looking forward to it. [seeing them]. “
The final performance is “Missing You” by BTOB. Referring to the fact that three of the four BTOB members who will be competing in “Kingdom” recently returned from the military, Changmin notes, “They are the group that has come closest to feeling the emotions that we have felt recently.”
Changmin then adds, “In contrast to the power of dominating the stage with dance, the voice also has tremendous power to move people’s hearts.” Yunho intervenes: “I hope they focus and show us their inner potential.”
After watching the performances of the six groups, Yunho concludes by saying, “I hope that by the end of this show, all the idols will be full of confidence.”
Changmin expresses his hope of becoming a source of strength for the competing groups, revealing, “Since we became MCs, I thought, ‘How can I help these groups more?’ I feel like we can become older siblings who listen to them and identify with them more than anyone. “He adds with a smile,” Let’s have a drink together, guys. “
Yunho agrees, “Even if it doesn’t show up on the air, I think we can give you some good advice.” The two TVXQ members also jokingly ask the production staff to refrain from doing an “evil edit,” leading a production team member to promise, “We won’t do any of that.”
“Kingdom” will premiere on April 1 at 7:50 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the clip of TVXQ reacting to the competitors’ performances below!
