KUALA LUMPUR: Those who rent their venues for wild private parties may take action against them, police warned today.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said such facilities include condos, service apartments, and hotel rooms that are rented out to organizers of private wild parties that are often associated with illegal activities such as abuse of drugs

“If we receive information about those parties and when we raid the site, action can be taken against the facility owners under Section 13 of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of 10,000 ringgit. “He said.

Saiful Azly expressed concern over the matter after police from Dang Wangi and Wangsa Maju carried out six raids on various venues that have held such wild parties since December 1.

He said that 89 people, both locals and foreigners, were taken to the parties and 67 of them between 14 and 64 years old were arrested.

Saiful said various types of narcotics were seized during the raid and that 65 of the 67 people detained tested positive for drug abuse.

“While we stepped up our operations at entertainment centers that had defied the conditional motion control order (CMCO) when operating their businesses, we learned that wild parties are being organized in the city. This is not something we can take lightly as we are trying to tackle this problem that is becoming rampant in the city, “he said.

In a separate case, police seized RM2 million worth of drugs with the arrest of a 64-year-old man in a condo parking lot and a 45-year-old woman in an apartment, both in Cheras on Monday night.

It said more than 6 kg of a variety of drugs that could feed 39,000 users were seized from the suspects.

Saiful Azly said the suspects had been actively distributing drugs in the Klang Valley for about two months.
