KOTA KINABALU: Several party leaders today reiterated their support for Warisan Prime Minister and President Shafie Apdal after claims emerged on social media that the state government will collapse soon.

Deputy Chief Ministers Wilfred Madius Tangau (President of Upko), Christina Liew (President of Sabah PKR) and Jaujan Sambakong (Vice President of Warisan), as well as Acting State DAP Chief Frankie Poon and Vice President of Warisan, Junz Wong, conducted a joint press conference to the state his loyalty

Tangau said that certain sectors had been making up stories and posting them on social media, claiming that there would be a power shift in Sabah in July.

“There are irresponsible parties that try to confuse the people and destabilize the state government. We ask people not to listen to such rumors.

“So today we are here to clear the air, to demonstrate that we are firmly behind the prime minister,” he said.

Recent reports on social media claimed that after the collapse of Pakatan Harapan state governments on the peninsula, Sabah’s assemblymen were also ready to change camp.

Tangau said Warisan had a more than two-thirds majority in the state assembly.

He said that people should not equate Sabah with the other states that had fallen, which had a simple majority.

“We have a clear majority in the state assembly, so we are solid. The question of the collapse of the state government does not arise.

“To those irresponsible people who spread rumors, we say ‘stop.’ We should focus on saving lives and the economy, “he said.

Tangau, who is also a Tuaran deputy, said that Warisan’s partners had trusted Shafie to continue leading the state, particularly in the fight for state rights in line with the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63).

The Warisan-DAP-PKR-Upko coalition has a total of 43 assembly members. The opposition bloc, made up of PPBM, PBS, STAR, and Umno, is 17. There are also five nominee assembly members aligned with the state.
