Warisan Plus addresses KDM fears in Ceramah grand finale

SABAH SURVEYS | In the latest push to inspire voters to make the right choice when electing a new Sabah state government, Warisan Plus tonight sought to allay the fears of the Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) community in its latest campaign effort.

At the Warisan Plus ceramah grand finale in Penampang, former Chief Justice Richard Malanjum made an appearance to address the concerns of the KDM community.

The former Chief Justice said he would not have openly campaigned for the current Chief Minister, Shafie Apdal, if the Warisan president were an “undocumented immigrant.”

“If Shafie were an undocumented immigrant, I would not stay here to campaign. Warisan is not a party of undocumented immigrants as well,” he told some 400 party members and supporters.

He urged voters to reject puppet parties controlled by political groups in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Look at your children before you sleep tonight. When you vote tomorrow, think about your children and grandchildren,” he added.

Meanwhile, DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng in his speech emphasized that Shafie is indeed an “original Sabahan”, which is also the title of a song that is often played at Warisan Plus events and ceramah.

“We are ready to elect an original Sabahan Shafie as our Prime Minister.

“Tomorrow is D-day. Don’t let Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin dictate who your prime minister is,” he said.

There was a lack of trust in Warisan among the KDM community on the “PTI” issue surrounding the Sabah election.

The term “PTI” refers to outsiders without permission (migrants entering the country illegally) and is a buzzword routinely used throughout the Sabah campaign.

Warisan has often been labeled as a Sulok-Bajau-based party, the same ethnic group as people from the southern Philippines who flocked to Sabah for half a century.

Tonight’s event, dubbed the “United We Must” grand finale, was the final ceramah held for Warisan Plus candidate Moyog, Darell Leiking and Kapayan Jannie Lasimbang.

Moyog and Kapayan are semi-urban seats under Penampang’s parliamentary seat, which is a stronghold of the KDM community.

Previously, the crowd was entertained with political clips and songs featuring Warisan, Shafie and the candidates.

High-spirited supporters carrying the Warisan flag danced and sang “Original sabahans“while the song was played and cheered when Darell spoke.

The crowd also received propaganda brochures addressing the controversial issue of undocumented immigrants. Among others, the brochure explained how thousands of immigrants came to Sabah during the previous administration before Warisan.

Sabah goes to the polls tomorrow.
