Warisan man who runs Sabah Water awaits completion

The appointment of warisan politician Amarjit Singh was declared illegal by the Sabah High Court last year.

KOTA KINABALU: The director of the Sabah Water Department, Amarjit Singh, expects his contract to be terminated, approximately two years after the Warisan man was controversially appointed to the position.

He told FMT that someone had told him “verbally” that his two-year contract would be shortened.

He did not reveal the person’s identity, but a viral message circulating everywhere claims he had announced his departure to staff.

In October last year, the Kota Kinabalu High Court declared the appointment of Amarjit illegal, saying it violated the State Water Supply Act of 2003, responding to a lawsuit filed by former Prime Minister Yong Teck Lee and the Tawau businessman Pang Thou Chung.

The court said that only public officials could be appointed to a higher position in the department.

Sabah’s Prime Minister Shafie Apdal had defended the appointment of Amarjit.
