US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris rejoiced at the magnitude of the moment Saturday when she and Joe Biden claimed victory in the presidential race over incumbent Donald Trump, who has refused to back down on his claims of fraud. widespread electoral despite the lack of evidence of coordinated illegal activity.

“While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” she promised. “Because every girl who looks tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.”
He cited his mother’s belief in upward mobility as part of America’s promise and the fact that the historic Biden-Harris ticket won the White House in the year American women marked the centennial of suffrage.
“I’m thinking of her and the generations of black women. Asian, white, Latina, and Native American women throughout our nation’s history who have paved the way for this moment tonight,” Harris said.
“Women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality, freedom, and justice for all, including black women, who are too often overlooked, but often shown to be the backbone of our democracy.”
Harris praised the influence of ordinary people who became more involved in public life over the past four years out of fear and frustration over the radical agenda of the Trump administration.
“For four years, you marched and organized for equality and justice, for our lives and for our planet. And then you voted. You sent a clear message,” he said.
“You chose hope, unity, decency, science and, yes, the truth. And when our own democracy was on the ballot in these elections, with the soul of America at stake and the world watching, you marked the start of a new day for America.
Harris praised his new boss as “a healer, a unifier. A tried and steady hand.” Looking ahead, he promised that the new administration will address the economic and public health challenges of the pandemic, as well as the need to “eradicate systemic racism in our justice system and society” and address climate change concerns.
Like Biden, Harris called for unity and national healing after the unusual rudeness of recent years.
