KEPALA BATAS: A tenant found a World War II bomb in a village house complex in Permatang Berangan on mainland Penang after the rain.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the tenant’s daughter filed a report at a nearby police station after her mother made the discovery around 5 p.m. Monday.
“The complainant told the police that the object was not placed by anyone, but that her mother had bumped into it after the rain.
“The rain exposed the object on the ground,” ACP Noorzainy said in a statement on Tuesday (September 29).
The tenant, he added, had tried to unearth the object before realizing it looked like an old bomb.
ACP Noorzainy said the initial investigation around the house found that the tenant had been living there for six years and that the area around the house had not been altered.
“Our investigation also showed that the site was located in a town where houses were built close to each other,” he said.
ACP Noorzainy said the police bomb squad had confirmed that the object was a projectile used during World War II.
“The bomb has been safely recovered by the Bomb Disposal Unit and will be taken to the Penang police headquarters to be detonated,” he said.
