HANOI, April 3 (dpa): Vietnam’s largest private airline Vietjet will resume some international flight services starting next week, the airline announced.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok are scheduled to depart every Friday in April, Vietjet said. Flights from Hanoi to Seoul are scheduled to begin April 15, while Hanoi flights to Tokyo and Taipei are scheduled to depart April 6 and 11, respectively.

“Flights from Vietnam will only serve passengers who comply with immigration regulations, which are Vietnamese people studying, working, visiting relatives or foreigners returning home from Vietnam,” the airline said.

All arrivals must pay a mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

The Vietnamese government also allowed Vietnam Airline, the country’s national flag carrier, last week to resume incoming international flights.

Vietnam suspended all international flights at the end of March last year to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Following a resurgence of the virus in late January, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam would limit all inbound flights until after the holidays to reduce the risk of new coronavirus outbreaks.

Vietnam stands out as a global success story in its handling of the pandemic.

Vietnam recorded three new cases of Covid-19 infection on Friday night (April 2), bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 2,620, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

The new cases included a foreigner and two Vietnamese nationals who recently entered the country from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, the ministry said.

Up to 2,383 patients have been cleared, 24 more than Thursday, the ministry said, adding that nearly 27,500 people are being quarantined and monitored. – dpa
