KUALA LUMPUR: Two influenza vaccine products, Vaxigrip Tetra and SKYCellflu Quadrivalent, can now be used, which were temporarily discontinued, said Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said that the Ministry of Health, through the National Drug Regulatory Agency (NPRA), has conducted a detailed risk assessment for the two vaccine brands based on information received from the Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA ), local and global safety reports and other international regulatory bodies.
“As of October 31, the KDCA confirmed that the likelihood of linking the flu vaccine as the cause of death, as reported (previously), is very low.
“The investigation report of 72 cases out of 83 cases of death (11 cases still under investigation) shows that the cause of death is due to the existing disease suffered by the people involved or other causes that have nothing to do with the vaccine against managed influenza, “He said on Facebook.
On October 28, the Health Ministry recommended that doctors temporarily halt the use of the two flu vaccines following reports of deaths associated with the products in South Korea.
Dr. Noor Hisham said the KDCA also confirmed that there were no specific brands, manufacturers or vaccine group numbers that could be linked to the deaths.
The Ministry of Health, he said, had also evaluated the quality of the products and reviewed the local and global reports on the adverse event after immunization (AEFI) that cover the safety profile of all influenza vaccines, including both vaccines. .
He said that a total of 1.5 million doses of influenza vaccine had been brought to Malaysia as of October this year with the results of their evaluations, including the two vaccine brands, to meet prescribed quality standards.
