Manchester United have finally got their summer spending going in 2020.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was widely expected to open his wallet to transform the Red Devils from Champions League qualifiers to Premier League title contenders.
And United took its first steps in making that transition by signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax for around £ 40 million this week.
Van de Beek at United
The Dutchman has joined players like Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech to leave the Eredivisie champions since their memorable Champions League run in 2018/19.
It leaves United with one of the best midfielders on the pitch in England’s top flight, with Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred vying for a place in Solskjaer’s three center-backs.
It remains to be seen whether Van de Beek will lead a midfield trio like he did in Amsterdam, scoring 14 goals and getting seven assists, or backtracking further as Fernandes pulls the strings.
Man Utd looks stronger
Either way, it gives Solskjaer an incredibly positive headache going into the 2020/21 season and the exact depth of the team he was talking about after his elimination from the Europa League.
It also gives United fans clear reason for optimism that if they can sign a high-level center-back like Dayot Upamecano and the acclaimed Jadon Sancho, they can start challenging Liverpool again.
But one of the most interesting facts that could emerge from the Van de Beek deal is his salary because United has one of the most unequal salary structures in the Premier League.
Van de Beek will earn £ 107,000 a week
The Red Devils doled out a slew of new contracts after Solskjaer became their permanent head coach and David de Gea’s world-record deal for a goalkeeper certainly caused a stir.
Well, according to De Telegraaf, Van de Beek will pocket € 120,000 a week at Old Trafford, which is equivalent to € 107,000 a week, making him the 12th highest earning player in the club.
This is because The Sun revealed United’s salary structure earlier this month after Dean Henderson signed a new deal, so you can check out the new rankings now that Van de Beek has arrived:

GIVEMESPORT’s Kobe Tong says
There are some strange details in United’s salary structure, right?
On the one hand, I’m sure Van de Beek will be delighted that he’s reportedly getting a bigger pay package than Fernandes and Wan-Bissaka, but it’s strange to think that Ighalo and Mata will pocket more.
United could clearly do their finances a huge favor if they remove Mata, who hasn’t been at his best for two or three seasons, from his salary along with players like Rojo, Lingard and Smalling.
But it’s worth saying that Van de Beek has more than doubled his money regardless of where he ranks among the United team, having made around £ 40,000 a week at Ajax.
And if anything, given the quality of the player, seeing him sit 12th in the rankings means the Red Devils will only get more for their money this season. Let’s see what you can do …
