Valentine’s Day Street Fight Causes Covid-19 Cluster

KUCHING: A street fight that took place in Jalan Green here on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) has led to the detection of one of two new groups in Sarawak.

Senior Deputy Minister Douglas Uggah Embas said that up to 130 police officers and staff were under mandatory quarantine.

He said the index cases for the Jalan Green Cluster were case numbers 7,093 and 7,094 involving detainees.

“As of noon today, a total of 148 people have been tested, six of them tested positive and 112 are still awaiting their results,” he said today at a press conference here.

Another group is a Kejatau group related to the workplace in Sri Aman involving a government office in Wisma Persekutuan Fasa 2, Jalan Kejatau.

“As of noon today, a total of 92 people have been tested, seven tested positive and 79 are still awaiting the results,” he said.

Today, 199 new cases of Covid-19 infections were detected in Sarawak, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 7,624.

Sarawak reported three more deaths from Covid-19, bringing the state’s total number of deaths due to the viral infection to 69.
