KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Parents and guardians of Year One students are urged to obtain the scheduled vaccination for their children at the nearest health centers upon receiving appointments at their schools.

Director General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that after the Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order (MCO), immunization programs could not be carried out in schools.

He said this involves vaccines against measles, rubella, diphtheria and tetanus for first-year students, human papilloma virus (HPV) for Form One students, and ATT (additional dose for the vaccine against tetanus) for all students in Form Three.

“The immunization service for schoolchildren will continue, but as long as the schools are closed, the service will be provided at government health centers such as health clinics, maternal and child health clinics, or the nearest district health office.

“This year, the focus is on vaccination for first-year students. To this end, the ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to facilitate announcements to parents or guardians about the vaccination program,” the statement said in a statement. Friday (May 15).

Dr. Noor Hisham said that as the government struggled to contain the spread of Covid-19, parents and all members of the public must work hand in hand with the ministry to prevent communicable diseases.

He added that continued support for immunization programs was crucial to protect the health and future of schoolchildren. – Bernama
