Unlicensed Electronic Call Drivers Allegations Will Be Investigated

SANDAKAN: Authorities will investigate allegations that some drivers offered electronic calling service without having a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong.

He said appropriate action would be taken if the allegations were found to be true.

This measure is necessary to protect the well-being of licensed email drivers and ensure the safety of passengers, he said.

“I met with e-hailing drivers in Sandakan and one of the issues they raised was the competition from the e-hailing service which supposedly allows easy driver registration through phone apps and the use of false identity.

“If the allegations are true, I will order the Department of Road Transport and the Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board to carry out checks and necessary follow-up actions,” he told reporters after meeting with drivers here last night.

Wee emphasized that e-hailing drivers must take a vocational test to obtain a PSV license before they can offer the service.Named
