PETALING JAYA: Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) in Terengganu has confirmed its first case of Covid-19 involving one of its employees.

Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr. Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan said that the staff member traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu on the same flight with another person who had returned from Sabah.

The passenger also tested positive for the virus.

Professor Hassan Basri said that upon confirmation, 14 of the patient’s close contacts had been placed under supervision and quarantine as ordered by the Health Ministry.

He said UniSZA staff members who were in contact with their Covid-19 positive colleague were also instructed to self-quarantine for two weeks beginning Friday.

“Management has decided that all staff will work from home from today until Wednesday and disinfection activities will take place on campus.

“During the closure period, the teaching and learning processes will run as usual through online platforms to ensure the safety of students and staff,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Professor Hassan Basri also said that the work-from-home directive covered all administrative operations except personnel in essential services such as security, health, finance, student affairs and residential colleges, subject to the approval of the rector.

He said that all face-to-face programs would be postponed until the situation was better controlled.

“UniSZA has also mobilized a trained counseling team and an active wellness unit to help affected staff and families,” he said.
