KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Chief Information Officer, Shahril Hamdan (Photo) has criticized Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for allegedly failing to respect party discipline and for not supporting the recently approved 2021 budget.

Without directly mentioning Tengku Razaleigh’s name, Shahril said he could not understand the move made by a “high-level and influential” legislator with the title of party adviser, who had openly held a press conference with an opposition leader. .

“Imagine if it were another individual who did the same, what would the reaction be?

“Or what if a Umno legislator or any Umno leader openly creates a movement, brings the media together with opposition parties without the approval of the party president or the supreme council?

“Would this be a good example? Would this improve the situation in the party? Surely not, “he said in a press release on Wednesday (December 16).

On Monday (December 14), Tengku Razaleigh, who is also chairman of the Umno advisory council, held a joint press conference with former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The two rivals of yesteryear said they would be willing to form a “unity government” if the 2021 budget was not passed and the Perikatan Nasional government fell.

Shahril said the party should not normalize such incidents as part of Umno’s “new political norm.”

“That is why I am expressing this, so that similar incidents do not occur as if it was nothing unusual.

“It must be stopped. In the midst of the Umno trying to find its next move, discipline and integrity within the party must be protected,” he said.
