PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has called for an extension of the moratorium and more cash assistance in their recommendations for next year’s budget, which will be presented in Parliament on Friday.
In a Facebook post today, its boss, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the youth wing had presented its list of recommendations to Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz in a two-hour meeting two days ago.
“I hope that most of it will be considered for inclusion in the budget, to help people facing difficulties and struggling to find ways to survive with the poor economy due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Asyraf had posted Umno Youth’s budget recommendations in a 10-page memo to the finance ministry on its Facebook page.
Among the proposals is an “expansive budget”, in which the government should focus more on providing social assistance to the population.
The youth wing also called for an extension of the loan moratorium for another three to six months, and cash assistance for those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, as well as for single parents in groups B40 and M40.
The memorandum also urged the government to refine the taxes imposed on the rich during economic recovery, such as a temporary tax on wealth, and make it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to borrow.
Last week, Yang di-Pertuan Agong advised MPs to support the next budget in the interest of the people.
According to the Comptroller of the Royal Household, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the King said that the budget will be crucial for the government and authorities to continue to fight the pandemic effectively.
