LONDON (Dec. 9): Britain’s drug regulator has warned that people with a history of significant allergic reactions should not receive Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine after two people reported adverse effects on the first day of implementation.
Britain began mass vaccinating its population on Tuesday in a global campaign that poses one of the biggest logistical challenges in peacetime history, starting with the elderly and front-line workers.
National Health Service Medical Director Stephen Powis said the advice had changed after two NHS workers reported anaphylactoid reactions associated with the injection.
“As is common with new vaccines, the MHRA (regulator) has advised as a precaution that people with a significant history of allergic reactions should not receive this vaccine, after two people with a history of significant allergic reactions responded adversely yesterday “Powis said. .

The Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said the advice to healthcare professionals was “precautionary”, and MHRA Executive Director June Raine said the reaction was not a side effect seen in the trials.
“Last night, we were looking at two case reports of allergic reactions. We know from very extensive clinical trials that this was not a feature,” he told lawmakers.
Pfizer UK and BioNTech were not immediately available for comment.
