KUCHING: All economic sectors in Sarawak can now operate from 7am to 10pm, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who is the chairman of the state disaster management committee, acknowledged that the different hours of operation as set out in the state’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by sector had caused some confusion.

“All economic activities in the state will be adjusted to normal hours of operation.

“For example, good electricity stores can operate from 8 am to 5 pm, it is up to them. But the first to open is at 7 am and the last to close at 10 pm,” he said today at a press conference. .

He also said that hotels can also start operating today and that the SOP for this sector is still being finalized and will be issued by the state Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture soon.

Uggah said that for economic sectors that have reopened, the SDMC notification is intended to ensure that operating sectors are able to adopt standard operating guidelines and procedures that aim to balance the economy and public health.

“This is important because we want to determine that even when economic activities have resumed, we also make sure that public health is taken care of.

“That is why social distancing and personal hygiene must be practiced at all times.”

He added that the compliance team will continue to monitor the situation and assist in the smooth operation of the SOP implementation.
