PUTRAJAYA: A new cluster of Covid-19 has emerged at the Semenyih immigration depot after two officers and a detainee tested positive for the coronavirus.
This is the second time the same repository has become the site of a Covid-19 group, the Health Ministry said.
Previously, the group that ended on June 22 had had 66 infections but no deaths.

“Therefore, the detainee was brought in for a Covid-19 test in a clinic and tested positive for the virus on August 27,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement on Friday (September 4). ).
Investigations by the ministry found that two immigration officers from the depot, ages 34 and 36, also tested positive for Covid-19.
They were two of four immigration officers on duty escorting the index case.
Dr. Noor Hisham said the ministry has implemented active case detection and contact tracing, with 269 people screened so far.
Of that number, 134 are detained, 219 are members of the warehouse staff and six are relatives of the workers.
“The source of the infection is still under investigation. Preventive measures such as sanitation and disinfection exercises have been carried out in the warehouse,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
Dr. Noor Hisham urged front-line people dealing with positive Covid-19 cases or patients in investigation (PUI) to take preventive measures at all times.
This, he said, included the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), a physical distance of at least one meter, and optimal hand cleaning.
Meanwhile, the Telaga group reported a new case in Kedah on Friday, bringing the total to eight confirmed cases.
The latest case is that of a 36-year-old woman who works in a hospital.
The index case is also a 29-year-old hospital worker who tested positive for Covid-19 on August 25.
Dr. Noor Hisham said that so far, 2,737 people in Kedah and six in Penang have been screened under this group.
“A total of 654 people are still waiting for their results, while the rest tested negative,” he said.
