PETALING JAYA: Two new Covid-19 groups emerged on Sunday (October 4), the Kau Sing group in Sabah and the Embun group in Selangor, says the Health Ministry.

Its CEO, Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that for Kau Sing’s group, which is located in Tawau, seven people have tested positive so far, including five Malaysians and two non-Malaysians.

“The index case in this group is a 29-year-old male who was found to be positive for Covid-19 by screening for symptomatic individuals on September 25 and was admitted to Tawau Hospital.

“After that, a close contact examination was carried out and six more Covid-19 cases were identified and admitted to Tawau Hospital,” he said in his daily press release on Sunday, adding that as of noon, 27 people had been examined.

For Embun’s group on Hulu Langat, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the index case in this group was a 41-year-old male.

On September 29, he tested positive for Covid-19 through screening tests for symptomatic individuals and was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

A close contact examination detected four other positive cases linked to him.

“All of these positive cases involved Malaysians and they were also admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that 52 people in this group had been examined so far.

The cause of transmission of both groups is still being investigated.

There are currently 34 active groups in the country, of which the majority are in Sabah, Kedah and Selangor.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that a total of 293 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Sunday, of which 30 cases involved people who had traveled to Sabah.

“This brings the total number of cases involving people with a history of travel to Sabah as of September 20 to 206 cases,” he said.
