KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, believed to be foreigners, abandoned a garbage truck they were traveling in after being stopped by the Department of Highway Transportation along the Kesas Highway.
They ran into the bushes after stopping the vehicle, which was then inspected by enforcement personnel at the Awan Besar Toll Plaza on Friday night (August 28).
Meanwhile, two other men in their 20s were detained after an inspection of the car they were driving revealed compressed dried leaves believed to be ganja.
Later, a urine test revealed that the driver tested positive for drugs, while his passenger was let out after he tested negative.
The deputy director general of the Department of Road Transport (strategy and operations), Zamakshari Hanipah, said that 720 vehicles were searched during the operation that ended at midnight.
“We issued 191 notices for various violations, including the lack of a valid road tax, license, tinting and fancy plates. We seized two motorcycles and one car during the operation,” he said.
Zamakshari said 126 staff members from the Department of Road Transportation, the Department of Investigation and Traffic Control, the Department of Immigration, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), the Department of the Environment and Puspakom participated in the operation.
“The AADK also arrested four men between the ages of 18 and 40 after testing positive for drugs, while the Department of the Environment and Puspakom recorded seven cases and the Department of Investigation and Traffic Control recorded 49 cases related to various crimes.” , said.
