SIBU (Jan 3): The late Lorna Ting’s brother Ting Hing Ping is requesting a public donation to allow funeral arrangements for his sister and nephews who passed away after a four-wheel drive vehicle in which they They were traveling with six other family members from sinking. on the Batang Lupar River last Friday.

He said they are currently facing a shortage of around RM30,000, as the total funeral expenses require a little over RM60,000.

According to Hing Ping, the amount is needed to allow the ashes of Lorna and her nephews, 12-year-old Alvin Phang and Wallace Phang, seven to be buried under a family roof at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Sibu after cremation on Tuesday.

The remains of Lorna, Alvin and Wallace arrived at the Sibu Morgue, Jalan Bukit Lima earlier this morning from Sri Aman Hospital after a special prayer was performed for them.

His remains will be temporarily placed in the mortuary house to allow family members to pay their last respects before his funeral Tuesday morning.

In addition to Lorna and her three children, the tragedy also claimed the lives of her older sister Siti Aishah Abdullah, 36, and her five children, Mohd Aiman ​​Mohd Hamzah, seven, Muhd ​​Mustaqin, five, Khairunnisa, 14, Nor Shuhada, 16, and Mohd Ahmad, four months. They were on their way to Kuching to send the daughters of Siti Aishah to a madrassa school.

Siti Aishah and her five children were buried in a Muslim cemetery in Kampung Hulu in Sri Aman around 5.30pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, Bukit Assek Assemblywoman Irene Chang urged the government to urgently investigate the safety features of all ferry service locations in the state.

“It is sad that due to the lack of security elements at this time that the lives of the two families were claimed,” Jalan Bukit Lima told reporters at the Sibu morgue, here after paying his last respects to the three victims this afternoon.
