COVID-19 | A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Kuala Lumpur after the index case traveled to the east coast of Sabah, which is now the new epicenter of the outbreak.
The director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement tonight, said that the Setapak group originated from Patient 10,689.
“The case had a travel history for Tawau Y Semporna, Sabah from September 17 to 20.
The patient began experiencing fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain and diarrhea from September 21.
“The case was admitted to a medical center on September 25 and a Covid-19 test the same day came back positive,” he said.
Patient 10,689 also infected his housemate (patient 10,770) and a friend (patient 10,771). All of them are now being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
This means that the new cluster now has three cases.
Patient 10,770 and patient 10,771 are part of the 150 new cases reported today.
Noor Hisham also reported on the appearance of two other new Covid-19 clusters, both in Sabah.
They are Buang Sayang’s group in Sipitang and the Kampung Sakong group in Semporna.
Noor Hisham said that Buang Sayang’s group started with 10,265 patient who had traveled to Sipitang, Sabah from September 7 to 20 and began showing symptoms on September 19.
He was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
After active case detection, three of the patient’s close contacts tested positive for Covid-19 and another six are awaiting results.
As for the Kampung Sakong group, it was traced to patient 10,154.
The case, which is asymptomatic, was found through community testing on September 18. The patient was admitted to Tawau Hospital.
Upon discovery, active case detection was initiated and eight other people related to the patient were found to be positive.
Another 57 people await his results.
Noor Hisham said steps are being taken to curb the spread and all affected areas have been disinfected.
