Travel restrictions to and from Sabah

PETALING JAYA: The government has imposed travel restrictions to and from Sabah that would involve Peninsula Malaysia, Sarawak and Labuan from October 7 to 20.

“Taking into account the increase in positive Covid-19 cases in Sabah, the government has accepted this measure,” Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement today.

However, special exceptions will be given in certain cases involving emergencies and necessary services that would require permission from the Ministry of Health.

Some of the exceptions include being a MyKad holder with the code H (for someone born in Sabah), a student with access to a Malaysian Immigration Department student card or pass, and a permanent resident of Sabah who has a code of MyPR H or an entry permit card or the endorsement of the entry permit in the passport.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said a total of 363 people were arrested today for violating the recovery movement’s control order.

“A total of 56 people were arrested, while the remaining 307 received compounds”,

The crimes committed were not wearing masks (144), ignoring social distancing (53), not providing equipment for the contact tracing record (129), attending club and pub activities (15), operating at set hours (17 ), entering areas under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (two), going against quarantine regulations (one), gambling activities (one), and failing to provide proper travel documents (one).

Additionally, Ismail Sabri said 2,667 teams under the compliance working group conducted checks at 13,689 locations, including supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, and land, water and air transportation terminals.

He said that Ops Benteng, which involved the Armed Forces, the police, the Malaysian Maritime Control Agency (MMEA) and the Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKSEM) arrested a total of 151 illegal immigrants and a boat skipper today. .

In addition, five land vehicles were seized.

A total of 42,000 people have returned to Malaysia through the international border entrance from July 24 to today.

Ismail Sabri said that of the total, 106 people were sent to hospitals for treatment and 9,659 people had to undergo mandatory quarantine.
