JOHOR BARU: A train ran off the tracks near Kampung Kurnia here, but all the passengers and personnel involved are safe.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said police received reports on the matter around 8:30 pm on Saturday (December 26) informing them that the incident had occurred around 7:49 pm.

“The incident occurred at KM752.75 to KM753.25 (southbound) as the train was heading towards JB Sentral from Gemas.

“There were five wagons in the derailment: a locomotive, a generator and three passenger cars,” he said in a statement here early Sunday (December 27).

ASP Padzli added that there were four Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) staff members and 24 passengers on board the train when it derailed.

“No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.

“The cause is believed to be soil erosion and KTMB has informed us that the track had been displaced by erosion before the train passed,” he said, adding that all passengers and staff have been transported to JB Sentral. by bus.

KTMB CEO Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said the soil is believed to have eroded due to continued rain at night.

He added that the incident had occurred near the Gems-Johor Bahru Double Tracking Electrified Project (EDTP).

“The train was leaving Gemas station in the direction of JB Sentral station. It is now parked at Kempas Baru station and passengers have been taken by bus to the JB Sentral, ”he said, adding that repair work is underway at the site.

He also apologized to the passengers involved and said he would share updates.
