Traffic police suspected of assaulting a motorcyclist

KUALA LUMPUR: The police opened an investigation document (internal investigation) on a traffic policeman suspected of hitting a motorcyclist at a roadblock on the Federal Highway, here, as transmitted through a video on social networks, today.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP, Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, said the incident occurred between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. this morning at kilometer (km) 28.3 of the Federal Highway in the direction of Kuala Lumpur.

“Police investigations are in full swing and the police stand firm in their position that any misconduct by officers and members will be thoroughly investigated and action will be taken from a legal and disciplinary point of view if any infraction is found.

“During the incident, a motorcycle driven by a couple was found trying to escape from the checkpoint. While fleeing, the motorcyclist is believed to have struck the leg of one of the traffic officers on duty, ”he said in a statement.

However, he said the motorcyclist was arrested by other traffic personnel and charged with not using the motorcycle lane, not having a motorcycle license, expired traffic tax and was found to have 58 citations for various traffic violations.

As of now, Nik Ezanee said so far, the motorcyclist had not come forward to make a report on the incident that was tacked.

“We have identified the motorcyclist and are tracking him to assist in the investigation,” he said.
