The Premier League’s handling of the postponement of Fulham’s match at Tottenham Hotspur due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the west London club was “unprofessional” and could have been handled better, the Spurs manager said on Friday, Jose Mourinho.
Fulham was forced to submit a request to the Premier League to reorganize Wednesday’s match due to several positive cases and the league canceled the game less than three hours before kickoff.

Mourinho wasn’t too happy to be kept in the dark until the last minute and had posted a tongue-in-cheek comment on Instagram labeling the Premier League as “the best league in the world” while they awaited a decision.
“I don’t want to talk about it too much. Just to say that I felt [it was] unprofessional, but that’s how it was, “Mourinho told reporters ahead of Saturday’s game against Leeds United.
“We were preparing for that game and of course we didn’t play, and that disrupts what a work week is.”
“The previous training sessions would be different if we were to play that game. People say good to me that there was no game, but only good to me if I knew there was no game.”
Mourinho said Lucas Moura and Carlos Vinicius are expected to be involved against Leeds after both forwards missed the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers through injury.
Mourinho added that he does not expect arrivals during the January transfer window, as the club’s income was affected due to the pandemic.
“Times are not easy, the club made a great effort in the summer to try to build a good squad,” he said.
“If something good happened to us, it would be a big surprise to me … I don’t feel good to ask for something.”
The Spurs topped the table last month, but a point in three games has dropped them to seventh place. However, Mourinho said he hopes his team will improve.
“Soccer is also mental, and you are not in control of all the elements of the game,” he said. “I think we are going to have a good period again, where we win games and score goals.”
