Tottenham look to Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard as Dele Alli’s replacement – Paper Round

Will Lingard meet again with Mourinho?

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard could be ready for a meeting with former boss José Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, according to ESPN. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favor at his childhood club and is now looking to play first-team soccer elsewhere, with ESPN reporting that a trade to Spurs is being discussed. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Lingard that he wants to retain him and that opportunities will arise, but Tottenham are looking to the English international as a possible replacement for compatriot Dele Alli, who has been offered to Paris Saint-Germain. Russian champion Zenit St Petersburg is also interested in the possibility of signing Lingard.

Paper Round’s opinion: It seems that Dele Alli’s time at Tottenham could be over. Last week he was linked to Real Madrid and now it is PSG. He hasn’t performed at a consistent level in recent seasons, but why would the Spurs replace him with someone else with the same characteristics? Lingard also lacks consistency. The Manchester United star was decent to Mourinho during his time as manager at Old Trafford, but he did not perform on a weekly basis. If you’ve seen a certain Tottenham Hotspur documentary, you’ll know that Mourinho doesn’t rate Alli’s work pace. At least Lingard offers that. You can’t blame the effort of the United man and maybe that’s what Spurs are after.

Rudiger fell from grace at Chelsea

Antonio Rudiger appears to have fallen out of favor with Frank Lampard at Chelsea and could leave the West London club before the transfer window closes next month, according to the Mail. The German defender was left out of the Blues squad in their 2-0 home loss to Liverpool on Sunday and was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s opening weekend win against Brighton. The decisions have put Rudiger’s future at Stamford Bridge in doubt, especially with the arrival of Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain. Lampard plans to sell some of the team’s players before the transfer window closes and the 27-year-old could be at risk.

Paper Round’s opinion: Clearly, there is a problem with the Chelsea defense that needs to be fixed. Lampard would probably sell her entire defense and replace it if she could. Rudiger had a bad season by his standards last season and it seems like he lost faith in his coach. Andreas Christensen did himself no favors by being sent off in the first half for a rugby inning to Sadio Mane on Sunday, but Rudiger is still behind Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva and Fikayo Tomori in the pecking order. It doesn’t make sense for Chelsea to have five center-backs (and club captain César Azpilicueta, who can do a job at the heart of the defense if asked), so surely at least one will be leaving Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks.

Palace Leading Race for Brewster

Crystal Palace now leads the race for Rhian Brewster, as Liverpool look to shed “up to five players” following the signings of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and Diogo Jota from Wolves. The Mail reports that the Eagles are now favorites to secure Brewster’s signing, with Sheffield United and West Brom interested in the 20-year-old. Liverpool expects to receive a fee of £ 20 million plus the additional bonuses of a buyback clause and a sales fee. The Mail reveals that Divock Origi, Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson, Loris Karius, Nat Phillips, Yasser Larouci and Taiwo Awoniyi are also being promoted for Anfield departures before the transfer window closes next month.

Paper Round’s opinion: Brewster is clearly highly rated. The youngster has barely started any Premier League matches but is still priced at £ 20m from the champions. However, the palace needs goals. The south London team have had a spectacular start to the season, with back-to-back victories over Southampton and Manchester United. However, the club has struggled to find a prolific scorer in recent years. Michy Batshuayi has been loaned, but signing Brewster would really mean business. It makes sense that Liverpool want to add a buyback clause as the club qualifies the young forward, but Palace must be reluctant to include it.

Leicester looking to sign a defender

Leicester City are exploring the possibility of adding Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah to their squad before the transfer window closes. According to the Telegraph, the Foxes have applied for the German defender’s loan, but are also interested in signing the 24-year-old to a permanent contract. Leicester’s first-choice target is Saint-Etienne center-back Wesley Fofana, but the club is encountering difficulties in negotiations with the French club, which could lead them to focus their interests on Tah.

Paper Round’s opinion: Leicester is having problems with the central defense team at the moment. Jonny Evans has been serving a three-game suspension after being sent off in the last game of last season against his former club Manchester United. Wes Morgan is now 36 years old and Filip Benkovic has not appeared for the Foxes in the Premier League since arriving at King Power Stadium in 2018. It’s safe to say that another center-back is needed, especially since Harry Maguire was never replaced after his departure to Old Trafford last summer. Tah joining a loan, with a call option clause, could be a sneaky deal. The German was highly rated during his youth and has 10 caps for Die Mannschaft.
