PETALING JAYA: A foreign security guard working for glove maker Top Glove Corp Bhd is believed to have died of Covid-19.

Yam Narayan Chaudhary, a Nepalese national, is known to have died on December 12, after being admitted to hospital on November 21.

According to an online news portal, Yam had been stationed at Top Glove’s 13th factory in Meru, Klang.

It is believed that he had worked as a security guard for two years and had been attached to a security company.

Efforts are being made to contact Top Glove for further comment.

The news of Yam’s death comes hours after news reports that Top Glove allegedly fired one of its foreign workers who reportedly exposed the workers’ crowded working conditions.

Reuters reported that Yubaraj Khadka had taken photos in May of workers who did not maintain the recommended physical distance of one meter while queuing to check their temperatures before starting the night shift.

Khadka sent the photos to a workers’ rights activist in Nepal.

On September 23, it was learned that he was handed a dismissal letter for allegedly exposing the situation.

The Teratai group in Klang, which involves Top Glove workers, is currently the largest Covid-19 group in Malaysia.

There are currently 5,450 cases linked to the group, including five more cases that were detected on Sunday (December 13).
