PETALING JAYA: Top Glove Corporation has denied the allegations in a Canadian television report that showed unsafe work and poor living conditions for employees in its factories. The company said the report was “completely misleading.”

He said the allegations and the way they were presented were completely misleading and damaging to the company’s reputation for suggesting a violation of the implementation of existing policies.

He said the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) report had intentionally downplayed or excluded the most current remedial actions taken by Top Glove, which included the company’s commitment to combat forced labor and its current implementation of “strong policies” to protect the rights of its workers.

CBC’s Marketplace program said last Friday that a smuggling chamber had been introduced into a factory with the help of a Top Glove employee. The images supported the employee’s claims about unsafe working conditions and hot and cramped living conditions, CBC said.

Top Glove also said it was “extremely disappointed” that its remedial measures were not published comprehensively and were not fairly portrayed in the main CBC video.

The company said that its factories in Meru, Klang, had been reopened with reinforced health and safety measures and an emphasis on education and compliance with Covid-19 protocols, after closures in November and December.

Top Glove reiterated that it had zero tolerance for any form of violence, harassment or abuse of workers and said that it had relocated some 2,000 workers to a new shelter in Klang.
